Questions parents ask

Is there a waiting list?

Many of our groups are busy, so there may be a wait. Apply early, and choose more than one group on the form if you can: the first group with a space will get in touch.

How much does it cost?

Each group sets its own subscription, which covers the cost of running the group and Scouts membership. Camps and trips usually cost extra. If cost is a worry, have a quiet word with your group’s leaders.

Does my child need a uniform to start?

No. Young people can come along in comfortable clothes for their first few weeks, and buy a uniform once they’ve settled in.

What about additional needs?

Scouts is for everyone. Tell the leaders about any additional needs, medical conditions or worries when you join, so they can plan to include your young person fully.

Can parents and carers help?

Yes please. Groups run on volunteers, and many parents help on a rota or with a skill they already have. Find out about volunteering.
