Stay safe

Scouts and Explorers around a campfire under a tree

The first night away from home. The first hike. The first trip abroad.

All of these moments are great for building young people’s confidence, but we know how daunting it can be packing their overnight bag and waving them off. And it doesn’t necessarily get easier as they grow.

Questions parents ask

Who looks after my child on a camp?

Every camp and night away is led by a leader with a nights away permit, with enough trained adults for the number and age of young people.

How will I know what’s planned?

Your group will tell you about each activity in advance, including kit lists, costs and contact details for the weekend.

What if my child has a medical condition?

Keep the group’s records up to date and talk to the leaders before any trip, so they can plan for your child’s needs.

What if I have a concern?

Speak to your group’s leaders or use the safeguarding contacts at the bottom of every page. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
